I am a northern city girl who got whisked 800 miles south to Louisiana. For the next 11 months, I will be completing my dietetic internship in hopes to one day become a Registered Dietitian. I have dedicated the last four years of my life to this field and I have finally on the last leg of my journey. In June/July of 2013, I hope to take my registration exam and finally get those initials at the end of my last name.
I have never lived anywhere else but Illinois, so Louisiana is a whole different ball game. Aside from it being hot and humid 18 hours out of the day (at least in the summer), I am getting to know and like this area. The people in my internship are from all over the United States as well as from Louisiana. I am looking forward to the next year.
Hobbies of mine include memorizing serving sizes, calculating people’s energy needs and learning about all the things people enjoy putting into their body. However, just because I am studying to become a dietitian does not mean I am a model eater. I will be the first to admit that I have a sweet tooth and I am not afraid to eat a cupcake (with the frosting) or munch on a bag of Skittles. All that matters is moderation.
So with that, enjoy my blog. Over the next 11 months I plan on writing about my internship, funny anecdotes about southern folk and the general acclimation to Louisiana, where there is a fried chicken restaurant on every corner and you can get a drive-thru daiquiri at 8 in the morning.
